Doula Care Information

Hello, my name is Nanette. I would like to welcome your family to one of the greatest adventures in life. Bringing a new baby home is full of wonderfully exciting experiences, with lots of learning and loving.   As a postpartum doula, my goal is to nurture and encourage this journey to be as warm and welcoming as possible to you. As your postpartum doula, I am there to support you and your family with compassion and caring.

I have many different techniques to help make the transition of a new baby smooth and memorable. I am a certified breastfeeding educator which allows me to provide in-home support to nursing moms and their needs.  In addition, I can provide assistance to those that are formula feeding.  I can also help with infant care.

The amount of time I spend with your family is entirely up to you. Most breastfeeding moms enjoy support in the first two weeks, to help encourage breastfeeding success.  We can talk about what your needs and wants are for the postpartum period.

My educational background includes counseling, for which I have a Master’s degree in Art Therapy.  It has allowed me the opportunity to work with a variety of people.  As an art therapist, I have always enjoyed learning more about the importance of healthy support for families in times of transition.

Beyond my formal college education, I am currently working towards national certification as a postpartum doula through Doulas of North America (DONA) and will be completing this in June of 2011.  I have worked extensively with pregnant moms and families of newborns over the last 15 years of my career. I currently serve as a Central Kansas Area Coordinator for the Pregnancy and Postpartum Resource Center, where additional training in the prenatal and postpartum care is available to professionals. This organization also offers a “warm line” to families with pregnancy and postpartum related questions and concerns--especially to those suffering with a range of prenatal and postpartum adjustment issues.  I am aware of current best practices for SIDS, the Period of Purple Crying, and HUG your Baby, and recognizing postpartum depression.
